Natasha Duchene - Montreal, Canada

I'm kind of all over the place with regards to what I can bring to the table. I've been writing songs for piano and voice for almost ten years now, and I'm currently studying at the University of Montreal in composition, where jazz voice is my instrument. The other thing I'm into is manipulating sound and contemporary music. My program is a mix of electroacoustics and instrumental composition, so I'm comfortable and happy working outside the tonal box.

I grew up in a small sailing town called Chester, Nova Scotia. I got lucky as a kid and met some pretty amazing people who encouraged me and got me writing music for productions at the local theatre when I was just starting middle school. I didn't realize that music is what I really want to do in life until I'd finished two years of an arts degree at Mcgill and had to fess up that I was terribly unhappy and would probably stay that way unless I started following my dream.

Most of my songs are in the folk genre, although as I mentioned earlier I also enjoy composing music for instruments and playing with sound.
