RELEASE: Comedy Summer Camp for Grown-ups Open For Registration

Have fond memories of summer camp? Adults from around the country are reliving their camp memories at a special retreat in the Maine woods. Camprov is a volunteer-run comedy summer camp for grown ups running from Friday, August 28th to Sunday, August 30th. It’s a jam-packed weekend of comedy workshops and performances.

“What makes Camprov special is that we’re truly dedicated to the summer camp experience,” says director John Herman. “Think toasted marshmallows, swimming, capture the flag, friendship bracelets, and cabin wars. Why should kids have all the fun?”

The weekend also features special guest instructors, including comedian Zach Ward. Ward has trained improv talent featured on television (Jeff Richards, Saturday Night Live, MADtv), the big screen (Maddy Curley, Disney’s Stick it), and students now featured at IO Chicago, IO West, The Magnet, UCBT-NY and UCBT-LA, Second City, Boom Chicago (Amsterdam), and the ComedySportz® across the World Comedy League. Among the instructors joining Ward are comedians Asaf Ronen (author of Directing Improv), Jill Bernard (author of Small Cute Book of Improv), and stand up comedian Dana Jay Bein, who was recently seen training a comedy hopeful on MTV’s Made.

“After one weekend, a beginner will have hours of workshops and performance under their belt. On the flipside, veteran comedians learn and work in an informal setting with their colleagues,” says Herman. “And we see a lot of networking happening during the lobster dinner.”

Camprov includes food and lodging, 10 hours of workshops, 2 nights of performances, and a whole lot more. The weekend costs $325 with a $25 discount offered until July 1st. For more information, registration, and a link to a social network populated by new and former campers, go to Camprov.com

Just found out that our surreal musical web TV show and web comic Odd Noggin Land won 2009 Best of NH: Web Series. Congrats to the cast and crew! A new episode should be up next week. In the meantime, ketchup with old episodes!

Another local excitedly spots the Fiesta, takes photos

I stopped at a gas station after leading a media literacy program in Goffstown for Media Power Youth. A car pulled up behind me. The driver stepped out, excitedly saying, “I didn’t realize there were any of these released yet!” He immediately noted my Ford Fiesta’s manufacturer license plate, and I explained that I was an agent of the Fiesta Movement. He asked if he could take a few photos of the car. I asked if I could take a few photos of him taking photos of the car. His name is Scott. Scott can’t wait until this car is released in the US.

On the way to Boston Media Makers this morning, Leslie Poston of UptownUncorked interviewed me about the Fiesta Movement with her cell phone via Qik. The interview was live cast on the web and archived on the Qik website. The interview is displayed sideways, because Leslie was holding her cell phone sideways. Don’t laugh. Save the Ioka!

Just got back from the “Save the Ioka” rally in Exeter, NH. Please take a look at the Save the Ioka website and pass it on. Built in 1915, the Ioka Theatre is one of the dwindling number of independent movie theaters in the country. Below is Marc Murai, the man hoping to turn to turn the over-90 year old theater into the Ioka Digital and Performing Arts Center. He inspired the crowd with his thoughts and reflections, including imagery and lyrics from the Broadway musical Man of La Mancha. He is looking to raise $10,000 by Wednesday night at 7 PM. He says if he is successful and can move forward in the theater’s purchase, then the marquee lights will go on at 8 PM. If they remain dim, then we all know what that means.

How cool is this photo of my wife Danielle (and family music rock star Uncle Phil, Cheeseburger from www.oddnoggin.com, Optimus Prime, and Darth Vader) at Free Comic Book Day?

Free Comic Book Day is a single day - the first Saturday in May each year - when participating comic book shops across North America and around the world give away comic books absolutely free to anyone who comes into their stores. The day was incredibly fun. Jetpack Comics put on a great event. The Odd Noggin Land table was a whirlwind of music and fun:

If you look closely, then you’ll also see Peter Laird, co-creator of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. All said and done, it was a great day, where even little kids got a feel for what it is like to live in Odd Noggin Land:

Nest, opening reception at Ello Gallery

Last night I attended the opening reception for Nest, a new exhibition at the Ello Gallery. Nest features paintings, drawings, and mixed media art by Cassandra Warren, Kay Kelley & Leah Creates.

Family Update (with new baby photo!)

Danielle is in her 22nd week of pregnancy. As you can see, she is healthy and happy. We recently went to the local garden center to get seeds for the garden.

Meanwhile we are finishing the baby room. Here is a photo of me doing electrical work. That’s right. You can learn a lot from web tutorials.

Finally here is a picture of the baby. It is confirmed. He has at least one arm.
